Typically when an athlete gets caught using a recreational drug like marijuana, he or she will admit they made a mistake and promise it will never happen again. Not so for Strikeforce fighter Nick Diaz, who just doesn't give a crap.“I don’t know why they’re trying to keep marijuana out of the sport. The worst thing they can do is to try and attack me on the issue,” Diaz said. “I’m a fighter. I fight back. I’ll speak out as much as I want on the issue. I believe in fighting for my rights.”
It's refreshing to see someone, anyone, not back down from what they believe in. He's not taking the politically correct road that might help his public perception, and I like that. I think it may even make him more popular.
I would hate to see him eventually lose his career for this hobby, but sometimes going to these extremes is what somebody has to do to get their point across. He seems willing to let that happen if it comes to that.
Following a win over Takanori Gomi, Diaz tested positive for marijuana and the fight was declared a no contest. Despite costing him a win, Diaz has no plans to stop smoking. He says he can pass drug tests while continuing his lifestyle. He offered this instantly classic quote:
“People say that marijuana is going to hurt my career. I say to them that on the contrary, my fight career is getting in the way of my marijuana smoking.”

Haha. That's guy is a classic stoner. "I'm a fight for my rights." How do you have rights for something that is almost universally illegal? I don't think he thought that one through.
